Description

Electronic Components Sourcing

Component sourcing is a core link in the PCB/PCBA industry chain, referring to the entire process of selecting and purchasing qualified electronic components for circuit board manufacturing and assembly.  It directly determines the quality stability, cost control, and delivery efficiency of PCBA products, and is a critical aspect of supply chain management for electronics manufacturing companies.

What are Electronic Circuit Board Components?

Electronic circuit board components are the core building blocks that enable printed circuit boards (PCBs) to perform specific electrical functions. These components are soldered onto the PCB substrate and interconnected via conductive traces to form a complete electronic circuit.
Based on their functions and characteristics, they are mainly divided into two categories: passive components and active components.

Circuit board components are the fundamental parts that form functional electronic circuits on PCBs. They are classified based on their electrical properties, functions, and operational characteristics, with the two primary categories being passive components and active components. Additionally, there is a third category of electromechanical & auxiliary components that support circuit connection, control, and signal conversion.

Passive Components

Passive components do not require an external power source to operate; they only store, dissipate, or transfer electrical energy without signal amplification or switching capabilities.

· ResistorsLimit current flow and divide voltage in circuits. Key variants include carbon film resistors, metal film resistors (high precision), and variable resistors.

· Capacitors

Store and release electrical charge, used for filtering, decoupling, timing, and power smoothing. Common types: ceramic capacitors (small size, high frequency), electrolytic capacitors, and tantalum capacitors.

· Inductors

Store energy in a magnetic field and resist current changes. Applied in power supplies, RF circuits, and filters. Variants include air-core inductors (high-frequency use) and iron-core inductors.

· Transformers

Transfer electrical energy between circuits via electromagnetic induction, enabling voltage stepping-up/stepping-down and electrical isolation. Widely used in power adapters and audio equipment.

Active Components
Active components rely on an external power supply to function and can amplify electrical signals or control current flow, acting as the "core control units" of electronic circuits.
Integrated Circuits (ICs)
Miniaturized electronic circuits packed into a single chip, integrating hundreds to billions of transistors.

· Key types:
Microcontrollers (MCUs): For embedded system control.
Microprocessors (MPUs): The "brain" of computers and smartphones.
Operational Amplifiers: For signal amplification in analog circuits.
Memory Chips: Store data.

· Transistors
Semiconductor devices that amplify or switch signals. Main types:
Bipolar Junction Transistors: Used for high-current amplification.
Field-Effect Transistors: Low power consumption, ideal for digital circuits.

· Diodes
Allow current to flow in one direction only. Common variants:
Rectifier Diodes: Convert AC to DC in power supplies.
LEDs: Emit light when current passes through.
Zener Diodes: Maintain a fixed voltage.

· Thyristors
High-power switching components that control large currents. Used in motor drives, power regulators, and industrial control systems.

Electromechanical & Auxiliary Components

These components bridge electrical and mechanical functions, or provide critical support for circuit assembly, connection, and operation.

· Connectors
Enable electrical connections between PCBs, devices, or cables. Examples: pin headers, socket connectors, USB ports, HDMI interfaces, and board-to-board connectors.

· Switches & Relays
Control circuit on/off states:
Switches: Manual control for small-current circuits.
Relays: Electromechanical switches for high-power circuit control.

· Sensors
Convert physical quantities (temperature, pressure, light, motion) into electrical signals. Common types: thermistors (temperature), photoresistors, pressure sensors, and accelerometers.

· Crystal Oscillators
Generate precise, stable frequency signals for timing and synchronization in circuits.

· Fuses & Circuit Breakers
Protect circuits from overcurrent damage by breaking the circuit when current exceeds a safe threshold.
